How to Add Vegan Food to Your Office Holiday Party

- Without Offending Anyone -

When it comes to veganism, there will always be a handful of grinches in the mix. But now more than ever, offices are integrating plant based into workplace culture. It’s about sustainability, inclusiveness, and showing you care. Some of the world’s largest companies, from Facebook to Dropbox, have seen huge success with vegan initiatives, attracting employee engagement and an overall increase in happiness and health.

If you want to incorporate vegan food into your holiday party, here are three ways to make those grinchy hearts grow three sizes.

1. Choose approachable dishes.

Perceptions are tough to change. Some people believe that vegan food is just lettuce wrapped in kale on a bed of quinoa (and other hard to pronounce superfoods). The trick to easing vegan onto your buffet table is to choose dishes that feel approachable to meat lovers.

Whether it’s Creamy Scalloped Potatoes with “Parmesan” or a classic Italian dish, like lasagna, choose the dishes with names they’ll recognize. If you’re feeling extra sneaky, don’t even tell them it’s vegan!

2. When in doubt, stick with the comfort food.

Every vegan knows that a plant based diet definitely does not mean less comfort food. From alfredo mac & “cheese” to lentil walnut “meatloaf”, there are so many ways to make classic, savoury favourites plant based. These dishes make great conversation starters, plus they’re extra filling for those coworkers who fear they won’t be satisfied by a vegan meal.

3. Order from a caterer that specializes in vegan.

If you’re going all out to introduce the office to vegan, you’ve got to order from the experts. Choose a caterer that specializes in plant based menus, with chefs who are passionate about creating unique dishes with big time flavour.

Upbeet Foods, Toronto’s vegan caterer, has a full holiday menu designed especially for corporate meetings, lunches and parties. Their seasonal menu features all of the delicious dishes mentioned above, plus new creations that will wow your buffet table and treat the team to a taste of something different.
